The Groundskeeper is on of the many new cafes popping up in my local area. I’ve been there twice now and have had quite different experiences both times. It might have been because one was breakfast and one was lunch (so I was ordering off different menus), but we’ll get into that soon! The courtyard out the back is really cool and the feel-good playlist makes it a great place to kick back on a lazy Sunday.
WHAT I ORDERED
- Smashed avo with GF toast
I initially wanted to order the smoked ham hock benedict, but the waiter told me that although they could take off the caramelised shallots there was still onion and garlic throughout the dish. So I opted for the smashed avo with gf bread instead.
- Pan-fried chicken breast (the menu has since changed)
- A chocolate milkshake. To be fair, I was hungover…
- A bowl of chips to share with my lunch-buddy
The second time was a little bit more difficult. I struggled to find a dish that was nut free AND fructose free. I asked the waiter if they could make the chicken dish with no onion and garlic, and he was helpful and checked with the chef. They tried to minimise it, which I was fine with because it was my best option. But when the fries arrived, they were covered in garlic salt though – so that wasn’t ideal! The food was pretty good, but probably wouldn’t go back for lunch because of the lack of options for me.
– Open 7am till late everyday
– Nice, colourful open area out the back
A variety of nuts feature on their menu but there is still plenty of other options
Most options contain fructose and not easy to take out of meals
Staff were as helpful as they could be and checked with the kitchen when they were not sure
Quite difficult as most fructose could not be taken out of dishes but they did try to be accommodating
If you just have a nut allergy, menu changes would be simpler.
