LIGHT YEARS

Super cool Vietnamese restaurant we stumbled across. The killer RnB playlist is what pulled us in and sitting on the little pink patio styled with lots of greenery and hanging plants set the tone for a fun evening. Street style food and a refreshing asian twist on the cocktail list with flavours such as lychee, kaffir lime and coconut made us want one of everything!

WHAT I ORDERED

– Light years fried chicken
– Beef cheek rendang curry
– Steamed greens
– Steamed rice

HIGHLIGHTS

– RnB playlist
– Great cocktails
– Decent sized share plates
– Separate menu for people with intolerances and allergies

YOUKNOWCHLO RATINGS

NUT FREE OPTIONS AVAILABLE

4/20 menu items (including dessert) contained nuts. I am most sensitive to peanuts though and that is the main type used.

minimal – GOOD – great

FRUCTOSE FREE OPTIONS AVAILABLE

Lots of dishes had garlic or wheat but I was given a special menu when I said I had fructose malabsorption and it was possible to make meals fructose free most of the time.

minimal – GOOD – great

STAFF KNOWLEDGE AND HELPFULNESS

I told our waitress about my allergies and intolerances at the very start and she grabbed me a menu with all of the ingredients listed for each dish so we could see what would work for me. Asked if I can handle sesame and went back and forth double checking with the kitchen that my choices were fine. She was fantastic but unfortunately when they brought out the curry there was a suspiciously shaped coconut flake on top. I asked her if she could make sure it wasn’t an almond flake and that the dish was nut free as discussed and turns out it was an almond as suspected! Luckily I had noticed. What had happened was the kitchen had served another meal over mine and it had fallen in. They were very apologetic, made me a whole new curry and continuously checked in that everything was fine.
When we went up to pay I saw on the receipt “not nuts or garlic or onion on everything pls- allergy” so it was the kitchen at fault and not the helpful waitress who worked very hard to accommodate me.

minimal – GOOD – great
